I write best when I have a strong emotional reaction to something. A glimpse at my journal entries from last year reveals such a fact. A neutral or stoic frame of mind is best in the editing phase when I want to refine my words, but nothing beats the raw and interesting words I pen in reaction to something. I am leaning more into those two frames of mind to produce better and more interesting writing.
